Fabric from Paris

It was 1962 and I was 12 years old. My mom was visiting friends for a coffee and I was alone at home and had the idea to sew a short and a short top out of the marvelous white linen fabric printed with tiny figures which my mother had purchased in Paris.

Since I had no pattern, I undressed up to my underwear, stepped before the mirror and fixed a newspaper with pins in front of my pants. With a pencil, I drew my leg contour and the side seam and waist shape – just as I imagined the short in my mind. I also did so with the upper part.
